How to Produce replica parts using 3D Design and Printing

Kayleigh Spring ICON19

You will have to forgive me for including my own contribution to ICON19 in this list. For anybody interested I wanted to provide more details.

My poster submission was based on a my treatment of the Kings Fund Hospital Model, a 1:16 scale model of a hospital due to go on display in the Medicine Galleries at the Science Museum. There were steps missing from the exterior of the model. I chose to use 3D Design and Printing as this offered a high level of precision to match the rest of the model. I carried out materials and fadometer testing in order to choose a suitable material, sealing the final prints to ensure no offgasing would damage the object.

In my practical demonstration I talked through the design and printing process, offering printed sample for people to handle and providing leaflets with more information and links for their own projects. I also used it as an opportunity to assess if there was any further interest in a 3D Printing for Conservators workshop which I am currently putting together.

My time lapse video created for the event took the place of my actual 3D Printer, which I couldn't ship via the airline to Belfast.
